VULCAN — Bonnie Lou Weissert-Milligan, 78, of Vulcan, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, in the comfort of her own home.
She was born Dec. 10, 1945, in Escanaba, the daughter of the late Earl and Helen (Bouty) Weissert, and graduated from Powers-Spalding School in 1964. After raising her two daughters, Bonnie returned to school and earned a bachelor’s degree. In 1996 she took a position with Kingsford High School, where she taught history, psychology and government until her retirement in 2017.
Bonnie’s passion for teaching led her to continue as a substitute teacher for an additional three years. When she was able to spend time outdoors, Bonnie enjoyed travel, both domestically and internationally, being out on the lake, riding in the side-by-side and playing with her dogs. If she had to be cooped up inside, she liked to sit down with a cocktail and watch college sports, especially the Badgers, and cook up the most delicious food. Bonnie was loved by both her family and her students and will be remembered for her generous and fun-loving nature.
Bonnie will be deeply missed by her husband, Steve; two daughters, Richelle Barker and Nicholle (Tim) Lawler; two grandchildren, Shelby Cory and Dalton Lawler; three siblings, Bill (Vickie) Weissert, Bob Weissert and Peggy Klapper; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Pat (Debbie) Milligan, Holly (Ross) Dixon, Tricia (Don) Mattson, Jeane (Boyd) Dixon, Nancy (Ron) Basille, Sargie (Tom) Pennington and Ted Budeck; her best and life-long friend, Dorothy Anderson; her four-legged babies, Tyson, Lacy and Beau; and many other family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Bonnie is preceded in death by her first husband, Dick Barker; and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Lynn Weissert, Susie Budeck and Scott Klapper.
A private celebration will be held at a later date.
Condolences may be expressed to the family of Bonnie Lou Wissert-Milligan online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com.
