IRON MOUNTAIN — Gale David Brottlund, 81, lifelong Iron Mountain resident, passed away peacefully at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee on Nov. 18, 2023.
Gale graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1961, and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Air Force at Vandenberg Air Force Base. There he met and married Viola Cuesta. They divorced in 2000 but would remain close to the end.
After the Air Force and attending Northern Michigan University, Gale spend the next 50 years as a self-employed carpenter/contractor. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and for many years golfing (the clubhouse perhaps even more so) at Bombers in Norway. In later years he met the guys for coffee every morning at B’s Cafe.
Gale always had a smile on his face and was true “salt of the earth.” He was always helping others and never seemed to take life too seriously.
He is survived by his son, David (Ann) Brottlund; granddaughter, Kristen Lusardi (Jake); great-grandson, Gary Gerber; nephews, Shawn Brottlund and Vi (Larry) Wagner.
Gale was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Gertrude (nee Anderson) Brottlund; and his brother, Bruce (Phyllis) Brottlund.
The family would like to give special thanks to Frank Cuilini for his help and friendship throughout the many years. Frank is not just a friend, he is family.
Also, to the staff at Froedtert TICU and 5SW for their extraordinary care and kindness.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Notifications will be made.
