William Sauld

“Everyone, huddle up. You can either be a statue or a bird…It’s a great day to be a Phoenix”

PRINCETON, Wis. — It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William Sauld of Princeton at the age of 62. William departed this world on Nov. 28, 2023, leaving behind a community that he touched with his warmth, compassion and unwavering commitment to the betterment of those around him. He had many roles: father, partner, brother, son, uncle, teacher, mentor or coach. No matter what you called him, he answered. Just never call him “late for dinner.”

He was born in Iron Mountain in 1961 to Carol and Russel Sauld. Bill attended school in Niagara, Wis., graduating in 1979, before going on to attend UW Eau Claire and UW Oshkosh. He took a brief break from school and enlisted in the US Army in 1986 as an Airborne Ranger, and was honorably discharged in December 1987. He was incredibly proud to serve his country and fondly talked about his time at Fort Bragg.

After his honorable discharge, Bill returned to college, graduating in 1991 from UW Oshkosh with a degree in Elementary Education and Teaching. Bill continued his studies, always a student and wanting to learn more, even if he said that he already knew everything. He graduated from UW Stevens Point in 2000 with his Master’s in Education.

Bill worked as a fourth-sixth grade teacher at Forest Lane Elementary School in Montello, Wis., from 1992-2015. Most people knew him as “Coach,” he was a beloved football and golf coach for about 23 years. He loved spending his time underneath the Friday night lights, bowling at Stars and Strikes, out on the links, hunting, anything to do with his kids, or chatting it up at BeerBellys.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Carol and Russel Sauld; and is survived by his partner, Jessica Mlodzik; his children: Alix (Christian) Birkrem, Bailey (special friend, Jesse Christianson) Sauld, Carly (Adam) Erickson, Miranda (Austin) Carter, Kennedy (special friend, Jake Nelson) Napralla, Emma Kuklinkski, Ava (special friend, Conner Hurley) Kuklinski and his bonus daughter #4, Andrea Kohnke.

He is also survived by his siblings: Ed (Tammy) of Oshkosh, Wis., Robert of Niagara, and Lorna (Walter) Lindberg of Crestview, Fla.; as well as many nieces, nephews, family members, friends, and football players.

A Celebration of Bill Sauld’s Life was held on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello.

Full military honors were provided by American Legion Post 351 of Montello.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for a memorial that will be established in Bill’s name.
