Barbara Mendina

NORWAY — Barbara Jean Mendina, 83, of Norway, passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson in Iron Mountain.

Barb was born on Feb. 16, 1940 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia “Mollie” (Brzozowy) Rewolinski.

On Aug. 16, 1958, Barb married her sweetheart William Mendina at St. Stanislaus Church in Milwaukee. They started a family and, in 1976, Bill took his city girl Barb and the kids and moved to Norway, where they lived the rest of her life. Bill preceded her in death on June 29, 2015.

Along with raising her children, Barb worked for many years as a jogger with the girls at Norway Gravure, then later at the Iron Mountain Iron Mine gift shop, with Millie and Jan.

She enjoyed FunJet trips with Bill to Vegas and getting away from the snow with visits to her sister Camille in Florida.

Barb loved her home and kept it cleaned to perfection. She was a wonderful cook; her shrimp salad and shrimp dips are legendary. Barb’s greatest joy, besides loudly cheering on her Green Bay Packers, was spending time with her family.

Barb will be deeply missed by her sister, Isabelle Rapp of Florida; sons, Dante (Peggy) Mendina of Norway and Mario (Toni) Mendina of Iron Mountain; daughter, Dawn (John) Bal of Norway; grandchildren, Tony (Cameo) Mendina of Norway, Andy (Katie) Mendina of Norway, Sienna (Nick) Mendina of Royal Oak, Mich., Daniel (Sadie) Bal of Norway, Kris (Carli) Kelly of Norway and Toby Kelly of Norway; nine great-grandchildren, Carter, Charlie, Vera, Grayson, Aslyn, Adley, Lauren, Morgan and Maverick; and many nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson for their kind and compassionate care and a very special thank you to Wendy Ray for all the exceptional care she gave to our mother.

Family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at St. Barbara Church in Vulcan.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Barbara Church, with Fr. Marty Flynn presiding.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Barb’s name to St. Barbara Church or to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.

Condolences to the family of Barb may be expressed online at www.ortmanfuneralhome.com.

Arrangements were made with the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.
