James “Phil” Niggeling Jr.

He was born Jan. 16, 1944, in San Diego, son of the late James and Jaqueline (Gengler) Niggeling Sr. Phil grew up in South Milwaukee and graduated from South Milwaukee High School. He married Janet K. Hill in South Milwaukee on May 2, 1964. She preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 2017. He married Gayla Rae Ansell in Escanaba, and together they resided in Florence.

Phil was employed by Super Value Retail Grocery for more than 25 years before retiring. He and Janet served as caregivers for his brother-in-law, Jon Hill. Phil enjoyed the time they spent together over the years.

Phil had a great sense of humor and enjoyed going to the casino, hunting and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Gayla Ansell-Niggeling; three sons, Jon Niggeling of Iron Mountain, Jason (Yana) Niggeling of Townsend, Wis., and Nick (Tina) Niggeling of Antigo, Wis.; one daughter, Dawn (Don) Hirn of Florence; one sister, Linda (Gordy) Krause of Westfield, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Ryan (Christina), Ian, Ava, Ali, Emma, Emily (Domicik), Zachary, Andrew, James, Lucas and Travis; one great-grandson, Arthur; and one brother-in-law, Jon Hill of Florence.
