IRON MOUNTAIN — Michael G. Geronimi Sr., 85, of Iron Mountain, formerly of Waukegan, Ill., passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, at his home.

He was born on April 24, 1938, in Kingsford, to the late Anatol and Rose Marie (Chiesa) Geronimi.

Michael was raised in Kingsford and graduated from Kingsford High School, Class of 1951. He moved to Illinois in 1969 as there was no work to be found in Kingsford at that time. Michael made a living in Illinois for longer than 30 years, doing all kinds of work. He was a fireman, police officer, machine operator and set up, and a truck driver for the same company for a number of years. After leaving Illinois, he moved to Iron Mountain.

Mike enjoyed visiting with his daughter Cindy and his granddaughters, Jennifer and Emily, for lunch and to play Yahtzee. He also liked to golf and did so often with his son-in-law, Scott. Mike enjoyed life and attended his Catholic Church and Chapel regularly, along with organizing Rosary Rallies. He was an avid deer hunter and was always with his faithful companion, Angel Boy. Mike was a regular at Dunkin’ Donuts, enjoying a good conversation with his friends while having his coffee and donuts. He enjoyed his vegetable garden and always shared what he grew in it. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Mostly, Grandpa Mike loved taking his grandkids sightseeing at the local lakes and parks.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Mary) Geronimi of Iron Mountain, Cynthia (Scott) Schmidt of Island Lake, Ill., Allen Geronimi, Verna Cole, Chris Geronimi and Greg Geronimi; grandchildren, Jennifer, Emily, William, Matt, Andy, April, Jacob, Stephen, Rachael, Nicole and Linda; five great-grandchildren, Lyric, Arthur, Colton, Faith and Tatiana; sister, Mary Andrea Richards of Kingsford; special nephew, John Coughlin; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Lisa and Bob Salzenko.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Geronimi; and siblings, Jackie, Tony, Chuck, Mera, Donald, Dolly, Kathy and Dean.

Graveside services will be held in Breitung Township Cemetery in Quinnesec and will be announced in the near future.
