John Nels Nelson

John was a graduate of West Iron County High School and the NMU machinist program. He worked locally as a machinist and spent the later part of his career working as a millwright in the south and on the east coast, where he made many wonderful friends.

John was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, trapping and most especially fishing. He was a family man and a friend to everyone he met.

John married Carrie Smith on Jan.18, 1992, and they recently celebrated their 32nd anniversary.

John is survived by his wife, Carrie; daughters, Jenny Nelson, Alex (Ethan) Clock; sons, Mathew and James (Stacy) Nelson; granddaughter, Lilly; sister, Judy (Terry) Girard; brother, Jim Nelson; and many more extended family. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Nelson.

A Celebration of Life will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Bates Township Hall.
