JAMES W. HARRIS

IRON RIVER — James W. Harris, 77, of Iron River, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 22, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital.

He was born Feb. 28, 1946, in Stambaugh, the son of the late William and Helen (Mickleson) Harris. Jim attended Iron River schools, graduating with the Class of 1964. He later attended Northern Michigan University. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War in 1968. He received several commendations for outstanding service. 

Jim married Judy Prudhomme on Aug. 29, 1970, at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River. The couple celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in 2023.

He was employed as an Electrical Draftsman for Systems Control in Iron Mountain for many years before retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping at Lake Superior for many summers. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and all his “grandpups.”

James is survived by his wife, Judy; son, William (Lindsay) Harris of Phoenix; daughter, Cindy (Dr. Leif) Paulsen of Janesville, Wis.; grandchildren, Gabe, Tori, Isabelle, Samuel, Anya, Lily, Kennison and Owen; extended family and special friends, Steven and Gina Golliher, Eve and Bob Swanson, and David Hoogenboom.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, March 15, at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Rev. Daniel Fosu to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the church.

Interment will be at the Resthaven Cemetery.
