Margie enjoyed her five years as a resident of Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford, moving to Optalis in January 2024. She was born July 13, 1926, in Iron Mountain, to Joseph E. DuFresne and Isabell V. (Raiche) DuFresne, and was a lifelong resident of Kingsford. Marjorie married Mark M. Fayas on Sept. 14, 1946, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford; he preceded her in death on May 20, 2002.

She was also preceded by her daughter-in-law, Joan Fayas of Fountain, Fla., on Feb. 24, 2022; her son, Robert Fayas of Fountain, on Sept. 19, 2022; her brother, Dewayne J. DuFresne of New Hudson, Mich., on Feb. 15, 2023; and her nephew, John K. Gibson of Urbana, Ill., on June 12, 2015.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Dixon of Iron Mountain; grandsons, Dr. Richard F. (Bea) Wittock of Fenton, Mo., Justin S. Wittock of Nevada, Mo., Stephen “Joe” (Jessica) Wittock of Wausau, Wis., Robbie J. (Sara) Fayas of Plant City, Fla., and Kevin M. (Jennifer) Fayas of Fountain; step-granddaughter, Nikki (Joe) Upton of Fla.; her sister, Janice (John) Gibson of Morton, Ill.; nephews, Dr. Michael (Wendy) Gibson of Escanaba, and Jeffrey (Alisa) Gibson of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Judy DuFresne of New Hudson, Mich.; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several members of her husband’s family, including Nathan, Angie, Gabe and Graci Vakharia; and nieces, Barb Casperson, Kathy Murray and Beverly Fayas.

Margie worked at Kresge’s in Iron Mountain for 27 years, retiring in 1987. She was a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain for 14 years, where she was their three-time “Volunteer of the Month.”

Margie was very proud of her religion and brought six new members into her church, American Martyrs in Kingsford, where she was a member of the Ministry of Praise and a member of the Senior Choir for several years. Humorously, Margie remembers being called “Grandma Amen” by her great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Evergreen for their wonderful treatment while she was a resident there and also to her many relatives and friends for their love and support over the last several years. God Bless you!

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 5, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Msgr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Interment will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
