VIOLET SCHETTLER

IRON MOUNTAIN — Violet Louise Schettler, 90, formally of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully on Feb. 26, 2024, at Riley Crossing in Chanhassen Minn., after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Violet was born on July 2, 1933, to Erick and Ellen (nee Carlson) Freeman in Iron Mountain. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1951. Upon graduation, Violet worked as a proof reader for the Iron Mountain News.

During her time in Iron Mountain, Violet met Kenneth Schettler and they were married on July 19, 1952, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. During their 35 years of marriage, they raised one son, Larry and one daughter, Linda.

Violet’s faith was very important to her. She was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, until moving to Minnesota in 2018 to be close to her family.

She participated in many church activities, including bible studies, quilting and her church circle. She enjoyed camping, visiting with friends, love of pets, and spending time with family.

Preceding Violet in death were both of her parents; her husband; and her son.

Violet is survived by her daughter, Linda (Tim) Elmer of Eden Prairie, Minn.; grandchildren, Erik (Kathleen) Elmer, Beth (Lee) Smith, Tim (Emily) Elmer Jr. and Matthew Schettler; great-grandchildren, Cecilia and Ronan Elmer, Madisyn, Layton and Elise Smith, Harvey, Arthur and Penelope Elmer; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the kind caregivers at Riley Crossing Memory Care in Chanhassen for assisting Linda with Violet’s care these last few years.

A celebration of her life will be in Iron Mountain at a future date, followed by burial in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
