Carol J. (Oliva) Kubick

IRON MOUNTAIN — Carol J. (Oliva) Kubick, 82, passed away peacefully and with her children by her side on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

Carol was born Feb. 27, 1942, in Norway. She was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain, graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1960. She then went on to obtain her registered nursing diploma beginning at North Park College in Chicago and ending at Augustana Hospital’s School of Nursing in 1965.

In October of that same year, she married the love of her life, Kenny Kubick, at her family church, First Covenant in Iron Mountain, where she grew up singing in the choir. The entirety of her short nursing career was done at Anderson Memorial Hospital in Norway, for she really only wanted to be a housewife and a mother.

She supported her husband and family, while he helped run her family’s grocery business, Oliva’s Market on the Northside of town.

She was an excellent mother, caregiver, and friend to many. She cherished this role for many years until her husband’s passing in 1985.

She then took over the grocery store and became “the face” of the market. She loved interacting with her customers and she also loved her co-workers, seeing them as cherished family members.

She leaves behind her children, EJ (Meloney) of Cheniqua, Wis., Tina (Don) Gribble of Quinnesec, and Chad Kubick of Iron Mountain. She adored being a grandmother to Cody Kubick, Jordanne (Ty) Schwandt, Cole (Keylyn) Kubick, Gage Massie, Dawson Laitinen, Marissa Doyal, Bill (Teresa) Gribble, Andrew and Ethan Gribble. She also became a great-grandmother to Austin, Iris, and Brice Gribble.

In addition, she leaves behind her sister-in-law, Fran Kubick of Rosendale, Wis.; her brother-in-law, Gerald Johnson of Vancouver, Wash.; and several cherished nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Ken; her parents, Ernie and Clara Oliva; sisters, Barbara and Mary Ann; in-laws, James and Sophie Kubick; sister-in-law, Pat Barker; brother-in-law, Wayne Kubick; and nephews, Gregory Johnson and Stuart Barker.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 15, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 16 at the funeral home. Rev. Chad Harrison will officiate.

Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
