Eugene F. Recla

He was born Feb. 2, 1932, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Roy and Emily (Canavera) Recla.

Eugene grew up in Niagara, Wis., and graduated from Niagara High School. Following high school, he joined the United States Air Force. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he moved back to Niagara, where he started working for the local paper mill. He eventually worked his way up to become the head Grinderman and retired from the mill in the late 1980s.

In the late 1950s, he married Stella Osieczonek and moved to Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 2019.

Eugene enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was fond of doing yard work and attending to his garden. He especially loved his roses.

Eugene is survived by his son, Daniel (Mary) Recla; daughters, Dawn (Jerry) Kunick and Tina Samlily; grandchildren, Steven Recla, Jason Kunick, Jeff Kunick, Jesse (April) Crites, Sara (Andy) Recla-Jacobs, Steven Kunick and Samantha Recla; and 23 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Stella, Eugene was preceded in death by one son, Ray Recla; one brother, Pat Recla; and one sister, Bernadette Sunquist.

In accordance with Eugene’s wishes, private family services will be held.
