ESCANABA — Michael Kilbride, 69, and Barbara Kilbride, 68, both of Escanaba, sadly passed away at their home of natural causes. They were found on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Michael was born on Aug. 9, 1954, in Grosse Pointe, Mich., son of Thomas and Donna (Turney) Kilbride. He was raised in metro Detroit and moved to the Upper Peninsula to raise his family. Michael was a devout Catholic, an avid reader of old western novels, a Lions fan, and a history buff. Most of all, though, Michael was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend.

Barbara was born on July 21, 1955, in Ishpeming, daughter of Stuart and Barbara (Belstrom) Oja. Barbara resided in the Upper Peninsula for much of her life. She enjoyed scrapbooking, crafting, and gardening. She was also a music lover, particularly of The Beatles. Barbara had an infectious laugh and a sharp sense of humor.

Michael and Barbara (Oja) were married on Aug. 20, 1977, in Michigan. They had lived in this area for 35 years. Michael was employed at the Island Resort and Casino for many years, retiring in 2021. Barbara had previously worked for OSF St. Francis Hospital.

Among survivors include their daughter, Jacki; grandchildren, Willow and Silas; Michael’s mother, Donna Kilbride of Mt. Clemens, Mich.; his siblings, Mary (Jim) Cooke, Michelle (Kevin) Kaptur, Patricia Catoni, Susan Hall and Lillian Lee; Barbara’s sister, Mary Oja; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.

They were preceded in death by Michael’s father, Thomas; and his brothers, Mark and Thomas; Barbara’s parents, Stuart and Barbara; and her sister, Joanne.

Those looking to remember the life of Michael and Barbara are encouraged to attend the 4 p.m. mass on Saturday, April 27 at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church in Escanaba. The intention of the Mass will be for the repose of their souls.

Burial will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery in the spring.
