MILDRED THOMAS

NORWAY — Mildred Helen Thomas, 102, of Norway, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Cedar Hill Assisted Living in Bark River.

The daughter of the late Peter and Helen (Greenleaf) Morosini, Millie was born in Norway on Jan. 15, 1922.

She graduated from Norway High School in 1940. Millie then moved to Peoria, Ill. to work as a manager of a dry-cleaning business and later moved back to Norway.

On April 24, 1945, Millie married Cecil Thomas of Vulcan, at St Barbara Catholic Church. They soon built a home in Norway where they raised their family of four children.

Millie loved being a mother and homemaker. She and Cecil built a cottage on Hamilton Lake where they enjoyed relaxing outdoors with their family. Millie also enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing and bowling with family and friends.

Millie was preceded in death by Cecil, her husband of nearly 64 years, in 2009.

She is survived by son, John (Lisa) Thomas of Gladstone; daughter, Donna (Todd) Sundstrom of Norway; son, David (Wendi) Thomas of Niagara, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Kelly Thomas of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Cory Thomas of Iron Mountain, Lexann Thomas of Iron Mountain, Jim (Heather) Sundstrom of Kenosha, Wis., Michelle (Brian) Oswald of Kalamazoo, Mich., Paul (Torri) Thomas of Dubuque, Iowa, and Jennifer (Darrel) Younk of Niagara; great-grandchildren, Stephen Thomas, Annelise and Lucas Oswald, Cecilia and Evelyn Sundstrom; sister-in-law, Lorraine Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Millie was preceded in death by son, Stephen Thomas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry (Elsie) Morosini, and Elmer (Virginia) Morosini; sister and brother-in-law, Rose (Hector) Cousineau; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Norman (Mary) Thomas, Kenneth Thomas, Marvin (Pat) Thomas, Ruth (Caesar Groeneveld) (Raymond) VanGinkel, Gordon (Claradean) Thomas and Calvin Thomas.

Millie’s family wishes to thank the staff at Cedar Hill Assisted Living and U.P. Home Health and Hospice for the exceptional care she received. She was treated like family and we could not be more grateful.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 29, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home, with Chaplain Lewis Hague, pastor of U.P. Health Systems Hospice, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.
