Pat Quick

IRON MOUNTAIN — Patricia Helene (Heuer) Quick began her life in Grand Rapids, Mich., at 10-minutes to-10 on the 10th day of the 10th month of 1934 (or so the legend goes according to her dad who also said she had 10 fingers and 10 toes!). She passed away peacefully in Iron Mountain on April 23, 2024.

Daughter of the late Harold and Gwen (Kremer) Heuer, Pat graduated from South Haven High School. She went on to Michigan State College where she met the handsome Don Quick — the very first weekend on a blind date! Pat completed a Licensed Practical Nursing program in June 1955 and married Don in September. They spent two years in Germany, returning in 1957 just in time for the birth of their first child. Over the next 10 years they had three more children and moved many times with Don’s Kimberly Clark career. Pat and Don started their Real Estate North business in their Iron Mountain home in 1971, working together for 20 years while raising their four children.

Pat had a gift for caregiving — working with the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital Hospice program, Stephens Ministry and numerous church outreach programs as a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church.

She also had many interests, from the Northwoods Garden Club to the Friends of the Museum, and involvement with Cursillo retreats. She was very active in PEO, holding all the offices of Chapter AN and serving on the state level, including chairing a state convention. She loved hosting PEO Bed and Breakfast guests for many years, and being welcomed to Chapter CX as the seasons of her life changed.

She was the mom who was the Cub Scout leader, the 4-H leader, the school volunteer and interested in all the pursuits of her children.

Pat Quick

Pat was a self described “tomboy” growing up and stayed active with biking, walking, tennis, canoeing and skiing for years, along with many rounds of golf at Pine Grove Country Club. She loved people and loved to travel, joining Don for many Ducks Unlimited conventions around the country. She also went with Don on his annual Canada treks for many years, sharing and supporting his love of hunting and exploration. Pat was an integral part of the family Christmas tree business, Quicks Family Forest, for 30 years. She was so proud and supportive of all of her children and their accomplishments, investing in their educations and experiences, following their adventures and careers, and watching their lives, and her grandchildren’s lives unfold.

The Quick family is ever grateful to many extraordinary caregivers, beginning with Ann Marie Muraro and Diana Newcomb, who helped make it possible for Pat to stay in her home so long — until August 2021. They became a part of our extended family and we will never forget the loving care they gave her at home and continued to provide after she moved to Evergreen Memory Care.

The staff of Family Ties Adult Day Center were a joyful gift to mom and her family for several years; and the Memory Care staff at Evergreen along with the OSF Hospice team, are appreciated so very much for all they did to keep Pat comfortable and safe, caring for her and supporting our family for these past few years.

Pat is survived by her husband of 68 years, Don; four children, Judy Quick (Jim Spooner) of Des Moines, Iowa; Steve (Cheryl) Quick of Iron Mountain; Sharon (Mark) Quick-Dulan of Iron Mountain; and Jack Quick (Laura Miller) of Seattle; eight grandchildren, Patrick Rulh of New Orleans, Ryan Quick (Taylor Oman) of Iron Mountain, Shaun and Dallas Quick of Seattle, Frankie Rulh of Milwaukee, Jack Q. Spooner of Cincinnati, Miles Quick of Salt Lake City, and Danny Quick of Iron Mountain; one sister, Susie (Chuck) Wakild of Raleigh, N.C.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service with a luncheon afterward, all to be held at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Northwoods Garden Club, or to Family Ties Adult Day Center, both of Iron Mountain.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with the arrangements.
