Robert ‘Doug’ Stock

IRON MOUNTAIN — Robert Douglas “Doug” Stock passed away on April 1, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center — Dickinson in Iron Mountain.

Doug was born in Beardstown, Ill., on Feb. 26, 1954, to the late Robert Lee Stock and Marilyn Roegge. He graduated in 1972 from Triopia High School in Concord, Ill.

After living and working various jobs in Iowa and south-central Illinois, Doug moved to Iron Mountain in 1983 to work for an electrical distributor. One of the first things Doug did when he arrived was to join the Elks Lodge 700. Doug met and made many friends through the Elks Lodge and was proud to serve as their exalted ruler for two years.

He married the love of his life and best friend, Judy, on June 2, 1992, and they enjoyed more than 31 years together. Doug retired from Standard Electric of Kingsford on Dec. 23, 2021. He had previously worked at Prime Supply and Crescent Electric in Iron Mountain, and if you were an electrician in this area, you more than likely did business with Doug Stock at one time or another.

He was the go-to electrical guy for many electricians and took immense pride in the work he did for all three of these companies. Doug also owned and helped operate, with his wife Judy, Decorations Plus, a balloon and party store in Iron Mountain for 18 years.

Doug enjoyed the time spent working in his home and yard and took great pride in his lawn and flower gardens.

He also enjoyed building things in his garage, especially when what he was building gave him an excuse to buy new tools.

He was a multi-talented man; from adding a sunroom to the house where the deck used to be, to building a gas fireplace in the basement to help keep Judy’s office warmer, to remodeling their entire house over the course of their marriage, Doug would build just about anything his wife asked him to make. Even though he would first give her “the look,” he, of course, would not only build it, but might even paint it magenta just to make her smile.

Doug was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors, always with that big smile on his face. He enjoyed watching Gunsmoke, Maine Cabin Masters, and Daniel Boone on Sunday mornings, and every night at 6 p.m. he watched Jeopardy with his wife, Judy.

Doug was a member of Partanen’s Ringer Club for more than 35 years, playing horseshoes across the alley from his home. Following in his father’s footsteps, Doug was proud to be a lifelong Democrat. He held the position of vice-chair of the Dickinson County Democratic Party since 2015.

After retirement in 2021 he and his wife, Judy, were fortunate enough to spend two winters in Florida where Doug loved nothing better than winning at Uno and Five Crowns while sitting next to the pool. They decided to not go for a third year, instead planning to travel to other places in the years ahead. Sadly, that was not in the cards. Doug’s big old heart could finally go no more.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; his two kitties, Deucer and Skipper; and good friend, Daniel Cody of Iron Mountain.

Surviving relatives include his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barb and Dennis Heart of Chili, Wis.; a niece, Amy Heart (Jonathan Brewer) of Cudahy, Wis.; a nephew, Ross (Heather) Heart of Faribault, Minn.; his brother, James (Sue) Stock of Lady Lake, Fla.; and nephew, Robert (Deborah) Stock of Lady Lake.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by a nephew, Aaron Stock.

Thank you to the ER and ICU staff at Marshfield Medical Center in Iron Mountain for taking care of Doug and a special thank you to Nurse Stephanie Covitz for being with Doug at the end.

Per his request, no services are planned for Doug Stock.

He asked you to remember him with a donation to The Almost Home Animal Shelter, 5060 Lincoln Avenue, Quinnesec, MI 49876.

Dougerman, we love you and will miss you.
