IRON MOUNTAIN — William J. “Bill” Marx, 85, of Iron Mountain, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Freeman Nursing & Rehabilitation in Kingsford.

He was born Dec. 11, 1938, in Norway, son of the late Oliver and Ruth (Mattson) Peltonen. Bill lived most of his first 18 years on Norway Hill in Swedetown. He graduated high school in 1957, along with his 47 wonderful classmates. Following graduation, Bill proudly served in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in March 1961 as an Electronic Technician 2nd class.

After his discharge, he worked for A.C. Spark Plug in Oak Creek, Wis. Bill worked on the Apollo Program as an inspector in the clean rooms, where they built the gyroscope for the guidance systems. In 1967, he started an electrical apprenticeship with the City of Milwaukee and later retired from the City Water Department after 35 years of service. Bill had a great career, and as he said, “he was lucky, not good.”

Bill married Mary Jane Pedviana in 1964. Together, they had three great kids, Beth, Mike and Ben. Bill later married Claudia Masterson in 2006. He thought very highly of both women and always enjoyed their company.

Bill enjoyed fly fishing, golfing, bowling, and RV traveling. As a child, he enjoyed trapping.

Survivors include his loving wife, Claudia Marx; his three children; Mike Marx, Ben (Jihee) Marx and Beth Marx; sister, Jackie Crockford; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Marx.
