IRON MOUNTAIN — David Brian Holmes, 66, of Iron Mountain, was called home to be with his Lord and savior on April 24, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
David was born to Ralph and Rosemarie Holmes in Superior, Wis., on Jan. 1, 1958. He was the official New Year’s baby of the Twin Ports for that year. Dave was a 1976 graduate of Escanaba High School, and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in automotive and heavy equipment technology in 1980 from Ferris State University. After graduating from FSU, David worked for Cummings Diesel in Iron Mountain.
David married Kathleen Wellman in 1980 and they had two children: Jennifer (Daniel) Grennier and Christopher Holmes. Next to the Lord, they were the light of his life.
Dave went on to own and operate Pembine Sports Center in Pembine, Wis., for many years. His passion for the outdoors paired with his passion for motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, and watercraft, led to his successful and satisfying career as a business owner.
Dave was an avid fisherman, and from a young age, nothing was better than a day on the trout stream. Dave loved riding dirt bikes, snowmobiling, camping, and exploring the waterfalls and all the beauty of God’s great world.
Some of Dave’s fondest memories were of time spent with his family and friends at the Holmes’ family cabin in Iron River, Wis. Dave was a faithful follower of Christ and had a deep love for his children and family.
He is survived by his children, Jenny and Chris; his siblings, Steve Holmes, Suzanne (Chuck) Douglass and Michael Holmes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Rosemarie; as well as his brother, William Holmes.
Dave is wetting a line out in heaven today.
Services for David Holmes will be announced and held at a later date this summer.
