AURORA, Wis. — Mark G. Newell, 79, of Aurora, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 3, 2024, at his home.

Mark was born Feb. 18, 1945, in Robstown, Texas, son of the late George “G.G.” and Mae (Gusler) Newell. Mark was a United States Army veteran. He married Marcy Gould on July 19, 1963, in Northbrook, Ill., and the couple eventually made their home in Aurora in 1976. Mark was employed with M.J. Electric for more than 25 years as a welder, retiring in 2007. He was a faithful member of the Fence Bible Church.

Mark loved the outdoors. Whether it was cutting wood, gardening, camping, fishing or making maple syrup, he just loved being outside and on the farm. He was a talented woodworker and could fix just about anything.

Family and friends will always remember Mark for his willingness to lend a helping hand. He was always there when you needed him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Mark is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marcy; a son, Scott (Jeanette) Newell of Waupaca, Wis.; a daughter, Dixie (Michael) Youngs of Niagara, Wis.; six grandchildren, Brandon (Melissa) Youngs, Kyle and Mark Youngs, and Benjamin, Jackson and Tessa Newell; two great-grandsons, Joel and Alex Youngs and their mother, Stephanie; his twin sister, Marie (Jimmy) Day of Alamo, Texas; his sister, Nancie (Chris) Voegele of Austin, Texas; a brother-in-law, Frank (Karen) Gould; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Carolyn and Frank Gould; and a sister-in-law, Janice Long.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 10, at the Aurora Free Church.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Tim Smith will officiate.

Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
