IRON MOUNTAIN — Dennis Roy Chellew, 73, of Iron Mountain passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson in Iron Mountain.

Dennis was born Oct. 5, 1950, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Everett and Mary (Molle) Chellew. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1969 and was a lifelong resident of the area.

On June 27, 1970, Dennis married Kathleen Hart at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. He was employed at Lakeshore, Inc as a quality control inspector for 15 years until closing. Dennis then took courses and earned an associate degree from Bay de Noc Community College prior to taking the position of manager and leasing agent of the Midtown Mall, eventually retiring in 2016. He was a board member of the local Buckmasters organization for several years.

Dennis was an accomplished outdoorsman, finding solace and joy in the beauty of nature. He loved spending time at his camp along with his special friends Gene and Chuck. His passion for hunting led him on many adventures, where he formed many lasting friendships. Above all else, Dennis cherished spending time with his family and treasured the memories of family trips to Florida.

His presence lit up every room he entered; his warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be especially missed by Isla and Miles, two of his great-grandchildren who held a special place in his heart.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Kathy; his children, Daniel (Joanna) Chellew of Wesley Chapel, Fla. and Laura (Brian) Munn of Kingsford; a sister, Joyce (Ward) Trevillian; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Cheryl) Hart and Ron Nelson; six grandchildren, Elaine (Eric) Nienhouse, Jake Munn, Zachary Chellew, Erica (Doug Nolting) Chellew, Jacob Chellew and Brett Chellew; three great-grandchildren, Isla Nienhouse, Miles Nienhouse and Adelynn Nolting; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.

Along with his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Alfred and Elizabeth Hart; a brother, Roy (Nancy) Chellew; and a sister-in-law, Carol Nelson.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, at Pine Grove Country Club, Iron Mountain. A time of sharing stories and memories will begin at 3 p.m. Please bring a favorite story that will bring a smile to everyone’s face.
