John Wisler

MARQUETTE — John Fritz Wisler, 78, of Marquette, died Saturday, June 22, 2024, at his home.

He was born April 12, 1946, in Ann Arbor, Mich., a son of the late Robert J. and Nancy (Fritz) Wisler. He was raised in Ann Arbor and was a 1965 graduate of Ann Arbor High School. He attended Northwood Institute and Eastern Michigan University.

John married Pamela Ann Warren on Oct. 8, 1966 in Ann Arbor and the couple were married 57 years.

John worked his entire career in banking. He was employed at Huron Valley National Bank in 1967 before taking the position of president at Miners 1st National Bank in Ishpeming in 1975. John and his family then relocated to Iron Mountain where he served as community president at Wells Fargo Bank in Iron Mountain for 19 years until his retirement in 2006. He was also on the bank board of directors of Wells Fargo for Iron River and Ironwood.

John and Pamela moved to Marquette in 2010. Through the years, John was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Ishpeming Downtown Development Authority, he served as secretary of the Ishpeming Rotary Club, was the director and board member at Bay Cliff Health Camp, a board member of Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming and Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, a member of the Chippewa Club in Iron Mountain and member of Pine Grove and Wawanowin Golf Clubs. John was also a member and former president of the Michigan Bankers Association.

His interests included golfing, hiking, car rides, computers and technology and spending time with his family. John was also an avid University of Michigan football fan.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Wisler of Marquette; children, Angie (Eric) Knauss of Big Bay, Laura (Bill) Perrault of Ishpeming and Robert Wisler of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Jacob Knauss, Bailey (Amanda Eichelberger) Perrault, Samantha and Logan Perrault, Cassie and Emma Wisler; great-grandchild, Caroline Perrault; sisters, Debbie (Rick) Byrne of Denver, Terry (Earl) Platte of Ann Arbor and Maria Margolis of Pittsburgh; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Jesse, Andy and Benjamin Knauss and Nicholas Wisler.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 1, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Redeemer Lutheran Church. A funeral service will be held at noon in the church with Rev. Daniel Ondov officiating. Interment will take place in Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the American Parkinsons Disease Association, Bay Cliff Health Camp or Wounded Warrior Project.

John will be remembered for his generosity and quick wit sense of humor and always putting his family first. The family would like to thank the Marquette City Police and the UP Health System EMT’s for their compassionate care during their time of need.
