Lawrence DuFord

Larry was born June 12, 1948, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Lloyd and Ann (Zigman) DuFord. He graduated from Kingsford High School, Class of 1966, before attending Northern Michigan University.

He married MeriKay Dean on October 10, 1970, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford; she preceded him in death in 2002.

A lifelong area resident, Larry was a pipefitter with UA Local 111 for over 30 years before retiring in 2005. He enjoyed running and ran in several marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 1982. In his younger years, Larry enjoyed racing cars at Norway Speedway.

He loved spending time at camp where he established the Border States Rifle Range, where he and friends held competitions. He was an avid cross country skier, gardener, and enjoyed coffee clutching at the Erickson Station on the northside.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Kit (Jeff) DeMuri of Florence, Wis.; his grandchildren, Dominic and Sami DeMuri; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents and wife, Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Patti (Tom) Carlson.

A private celebration of life will be held at Larry’s camp later this summer.
