KINGSFORD — Margaret Mary Donahue, 94, of Kingsford passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson.
Margaret was born on Feb. 8, 1930, to Edward and Mary Walden Dundon in Iron Mountain. She was raised here and attended local schools, graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1948.
She continued her education, graduating from the University of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn., St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn., and postgraduate studies in public health at Marquette University in Milwaukee.
In 1963 she married Richard Donahue, and they resided at various military bases in the U.S. and Europe. She was employed as a civilian nurse by the Department of the Army and was the first Occupational Health Nurse at Fort Campbell, Ky. where she co-directed the Occupational Health Program for the 3,000 civilians employed there. While at Ft. Campbell, they resided in Clarksville, Tenn.
Always active in the catholic church, she was a founding member of the St. Michael the Archangel Church in Oak Grove, Ky. where she served as a liturgist, a eucharistic ministry lector, a CCD instructor, and a member of St. Joan’s Squadron. She remained in Clarksville after her retirement until she returned to Iron Mountain in 1995.
She was a member of the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Serra Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Gold Star Wives of America, and Military Widows Club Clarksville.
Margaret is survived by a brother, Mark Dundon and his wife, Ruth; nieces, Jackie and Mary; a nephew, Dan; and friends and extended family all over the world that she regularly corresponded with.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; and one brother, Robert Dundon, SJ.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5 at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. Janusz Romanek will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Private burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette.
