NIAGARA, Wis. — Richard Nash Hansen, 87, of Niagara, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.

He was born on March 1, 1937, to Gordon and Eda (Bartelli) Hansen, in Milwaukee. Richard grew up in Iron Mountain, where his beloved grandmother, Caterina Bartelli, helped to raise him. He graduated from Kingsford High school with the Class of 1955, where he had many friends whom he had his entire life.

He attended Michigan Technological University, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering in 1959. After graduation, he moved to Milwaukee, where he lived for 15 years, working at various companies as a mechanical engineer.

In 1974, Grede Foundries moved Richard back to the Iron Mountain area, and in 1977, he and his wife bought Sikora Sheet Metal, Inc., which they owned and operated until 2016.

Richard met his wife, the former Anne Wieden, through friends, and they married on Feb. 16, 1962; they were married for over 62 years. He was a lifelong Methodist, and a member of Quinnesec United Methodist Church for over 50 years, a church his grandparents, Carl and Allie Hansen, were members of during their lifetimes.

Richard enjoyed fishing and going to deer camp every autumn, although he never shot a deer! He loved winter sports, including skiing, ski jumping, and snowmobiling. He was an ardent Green Bay Packers fan, and an avid vegetable gardener.

Richard was instrumental in the formation and construction of Mountain View Ice Arena in Iron Mountain where he was able to see many young people play hockey, which was another sport he loved.

Richard is survived by his wife, Anne; son, Karl Hansen of Sault Ste. Marie, daughters, Catherine (Greg) Myers of Columbus, Ohio, and Anna Christina (Galen) Ojala of Montgomery, Ala. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Heidi Hansen, Matthew Hansen, Elizabeth (Tyler) Hostetler, Alexandra (Nicholas) Boardman; Grace (Daniel) Griffin, Joy Ojala, Jacob Ojala, Erik Ojala, Hanna Ojala, Maija Ojala, and Mary Ojala.
