Bernard Menghini

IRON MOUNTAIN — Bernard Nicholas Menghini passed into eternity on July 18, 2024, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wis., surrounded by his loving family, following an unexpected short term illness.

Bernie’s life was selflessly dedicated to his family from beginning to end. He married his high school sweetheart, Luverna, on Sept. 7, 1968, and they spent their 55+ years of marriage raising their 6 children in their Catholic faith and instilling in them small town values, hard work, and love for family. Bernie’s greatest joys were his wife, his six children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Bernie spent his career working side-by-side with his father and mother, his wife, his son, Paul, and son-in-law, Pat, in their family business, Bloom Wholesale, Inc. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and dining with his wife, family, and friends at Pine Grove Country Club, where he and Lu were members for more than 50 years. During his later years, he loved spending time on the lake with his family. While Bernie’s intellect and tireless work ethic allowed him to achieve much, he preferred to remain very simple and was always a man of uncompromising integrity and constant generosity. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Iron Mountain. As part of his faith life over the last 20+ years, you could find Bernie at least one hour each week in the middle of the night praying in front of the Blessed Sacrament in the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel in Iron Mountain.

Born in Iron Mountain, Bernie was the eldest child of Armond and Ann Menghini and was a dedicated big brother to his only sibling, Charles Menghini. He graduated Iron Mountain High School in 1965 and Northern Michigan University in 1969 with a bachelor of science in accounting and minor in finance.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Lu; by his children, Paul Menghini (fiance Carol Quandt), Ann (Patrick) Brown, Luverna (David Einolf) Menghini, Therese (Mario) Chavez, Bernadette (Matthew) Prochaska, and Michael (Maureen) Menghini; his grandchildren, Michael, Lily, and Magdalaina Menghini; Kathryn (Izzy) Dove, Elizabeth (Ryan) Clark, and Isabella Brown; Maria, Modestus Bernard, Aurelia, and Ario Chavez; John and Joseph Prochaska; and Bernadette, Paul, Michael Jr.; Joseph Bernard, and Martha Menghini; and his great-grandchildren, Eliana and Luke Bernard Dove. He is also survived by his brother, Charles (Wanda) Menghini; his brother-in-law John (Sharon) Dougoveto; and his sisters-in-law, Ann (Tom) Martin, Mary Calo, and Therese (Tom) Gross.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Armond and Ann Menghini; parents-in-law, Walter and Monica Dougoveto; and brother-in-law, John Calo.

A visitation will be held at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain on Thursday, July 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. followed by the rosary and open sharing. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph’s Parish at 408 Prospect Ave., Iron Mountain. Fr. Janusz Romanek will officiate. Burial will be at the Cemetery Park Cemetery in Iron Mountain.
