JOANN AND EARL MALLORY
IRON MOUNTAIN — Earl E. Mallory, 91, longtime Ishpeming resident currently of Iron Mountain, was reunited with the love of his life on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, while a resident at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Community Living Center and Hospice Program.
Earl was born at his family’s home Huntersville Township, Minn. on Sept. 3, 1932, a son of the late Esther (Larabee) and Harry Edward Mallory. He was a graduate of the Menagha High School and worked on his family’s farm. Earl served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal, being honorable discharged in December of 1954.
Earl married JoAnn Frank on May 3, 1958, in Hibbing, Minn. Earl and JoAnn moved to Ishpeming and Earl began his career with Northern Tire in 1963. He worked as a serviceman and retreaded hundreds of tires for the local mining industry prior to his retirement.
Earl was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Recyclists Motorcycle Club and enjoyed traveling throughout the continental United States via motorcycle. Earl could always be counted on when you had a mechanical problem and was able to figure out and fix just about anything. Earl enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he affectionately referred to as his tribe and was known by them as “The Duke” or “Papa Duke.”
He lived at the Victorian Pines Estates Independent Living Center with the love of his life JoAnn for nearly two years until her passing on Jan. 31, 2024, and under the care of their wonderful staff.
Earl is survived by a daughter, MaryJo (Ed) Chaperon of Iron Mountain; a son, Mark (Jena) Mallory of Kingsford; five grandchildren, Amy (Jon) Cvengros, Edward (Rebecca) Chaperon, Kate (Michael) Pearson, Jacob (Chloe) Mallory, Emmett Mallory; and seven great-grandchildren, Hallie (Jesse) Julian, Isabelle and Eddie Chaperon, Jack and Nora Cvengros, Pearl and Forest Pearson.
Earl was preceded by his wife, JoAnn Mallory; and a brother, Elmer Mallory.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to noon Eastern time on Wednesday, July 24 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Eastern time with Fr. Larry Van Damme officiating. The Mass will be livestreamed at ishpemingcatholic.com/live
A luncheon will follow the services in the K/D Hall at St John’s.
