FLORENCE, Wis. — Gary M. Steber, 74, of Florence, Wis., passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Gary spent most of his adult life potato farming at Steber Seed Farms with his father Ray, brother Richard, nephew Rob, and son Chris. He served over many years on the Florence County Board, the Commonwealth Town Board as chairman, and the Florence County Volunteer Fire Department. He loved spending his spare time with family and friends hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. Gary was known by everyone for his smile, his silly jokes and stories, and his willingness to help.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Cindy Steber; sons, Chris (Jen) Steber and Dan (Mel) Steber; daughter, Laura Steber; eight grandchildren, Madde Hemgren, Amara Zens, Bradly Steber, Alex Hemgren, Carter Steber, Kiya Zens, Wes Steber and Sam Hemgren; nephews, Rob (Karen) Steber and Terry (Jen) Steber; and nieces, Wanda (Tom) Pontbriand, Gail (Dan) Donaldson and Randi (Andy) Smith.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Steber; sister-in-law, Susan Steber; grandson, Mason Steber; grandnephew, Jeremy Donaldson; and grandniece, Whitney Gregg.

Gary spent his entire life focused on his four most important passions: faith, family, friends and farming. To know him was to feel his love and the kindness in his heart.
