Margaret “Peggy” Buell
KINGSFORD — Margaret “Peggy” Buell, 82, of Kingsford passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson in Iron Mountain.
She was born in Iron Mountain on April 13, 1942, to the late Paul and Margaret Campbell. Peggy graduated from Kingsford High School in 1961 and continued her education at Northern Michigan University.
After graduation she worked as an LPN at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. In November of 1963, she was blessed with her first child, Barbara. In 1966, Peggy accepted a position with the Department of the U.S. Army and moved to the Detroit area, where she met and married Thomas Buell on March 10, 1967.
She was blessed with two more daughters, Julie and Nancie, while living in Berkley. In 1976, Peggy moved back to U.P. and resided in Crystal Falls and Iron River before finally settling down in Kingsford in 2004.
Peggy was a faithful Catholic and member of St. Mary Queen Peace Catholic Church. Peggy was a talented seamstress, making or altering many of her family’s bridal party and wedding dresses. Knitting was another of her passions. It gave Peggy great joy to gift family and friends with Christmas stockings, sweaters and blankets.
She also enjoyed cuddling with her cat, Beau, collecting antiques, working on puzzles, and reading, particularly racy historical romance novels. Peggy will be remembered as the sweetest, most stubborn and resilient woman around.
Peggy will be deeply missed by her three daughters, Barbara Barkley (Paul Sydmark), Julie (Chad) Jacobson, and Nancie Buell; four granddaughters, Alicia Barkley, Katie Barkley, Ashley (John) Jacobson, and Regan Jacobson; siblings, Patrick (Mary Lou) Campbell, Mary Lou Campbell Twigg, and Danny (Kaye) Campbell; brother-in-law, Jim Lowe; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by siblings, Mike (Roberta) Campbell, Janice Lowe, Terry Campbell and Anna Marie Campbell; and a brother-in-law, Gary Twigg.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home, 901 Carpenter Ave., with Fr. Michael Woempner officiating the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Quinnesec Cemetery.
We would like to thank our sister, Nancie, for providing Mom 24/7 in-home care, as well as Fr. Michael Woempner and Beverly McCole for walking with Mom through her illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Peggy’s name.
