Marieta ‘Rita’ Huglen

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP — Marieta “Rita” (Miller) Huglen, 69, of Breitung Township, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, July 9, 2024, at Optalis Health and Rehabilitation in Kingsford.

Rita was born Oct. 24, 1954, in Rhinelander, Wis., daughter of the late Raymond and Regina (VanHarpen) Miller. She attended Rhinelander schools and graduated from Rhinelander High School with the class of 1973.

On Feb. 23, 1974, Rita married Steven Huglen and the two recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. In 1989 they relocated to the Iron Mountain area. Rita enjoyed being a homemaker and devoting her time to her family, various community programs and many beloved hobbies.

She enjoyed crafts like water color painting and scrapbooking. She has been a part of Ski-Ters Water Ski Club in Spread Eagle, Wis. for more than 20 years and loved boating and living on the lake. In addition to cheerleading and track, which she coached in Rhinelander, she was also a very special coach for volleyball in Norway and Kingsford.

Rita taught Sunday School and First Communion classes at Our Saviours Lutheran Church for several years and most recently was an active member at Redemption Hill. She was also an avid golfer.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Steve of Iron Mountain; children, Carrie (Marc) Morency of Iron Mountain, Kyle (Katie) Huglen of Rhinelander and Kelly Bell of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Marissa Rasmussen, Elayna Morency and Jude Swiercz, as well as one future grandson on the way; siblings, Greg (April) Miller, Scott Miller, and Debbie (Greg) Eads, as well as several nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends too numerous to mention all by name.

In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her sister, Paula Church.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on July 20 at Redemption Hill in Kingsford. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Alex Tunnicliff will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial volleyball scholarship at Kingsford High School will be established in Rita’s name.
