HAMILTON LAKES — Stephen Kenneth Krueger, 76, of Hamilton Lakes passed away, after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at his home.
He was born in Iron Mountain on July 1, 1948, the son of the late Kenneth and Ena (Maraccini) Krueger.
Steve graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1966 and entered the U.S. Navy in February of 1967.
He served his country proudly during the Vietnam Era, was stationed in Okinawa and the Philippines and served on the aircraft carrier USS Roosevelt, as an aircraft mechanic. He was honorably discharged in November of 1970.
He married Debra Pilon on July 6, 1984, in Iron Mountain. Steve worked at Grede Foundry holding numerous positions for 42 years, retiring in 2010.
He was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan, active member of Hall-DeWinter American Legion Post 145, was known as the “Egg Man” at their monthly breakfast, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Spirit Council 9523.
Steve’s true passions included hunting, fishing, camping and skiing with his family. He enjoyed his time at camp, picking berries, working on his deer blind and cutting firewood.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Debra; daughters, Tara (Brandon) Kirkland of Fleming Island, Fla. and Crystal (Jamie Donaldson) Augustine of Norway; grandchildren, Keslyn, Ethan, Brandon, Alex, Jed, Colton and Lizzy; brother, Randolph (Elizabeth) Krueger of Iron Mountain; brother and sisters-in-law, Renee (Chris) Wilson, Randy (Cindy) Pilon, Gary (Janice) Pilon, JoAnn Pilon and Dave Palmcook; many nieces and nephews; special Godfather to Toni Wilson, Lizzy Augustine and Tara Sadler.
Steve was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bob Pilon and sisters-in-law, Carol Palmcook, Nancy and Lloyd Cudnohufsky.

Family will greet friends on Friday, July 12, from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at the church, with Fr. Marty Flynn, officiating.
Interment will be held in the Norway Township Cemetery.
