Gerald M. Nowack

POWERS — Gerald “Jerry” M. Nowack, 78, Powers, passed away on Wednesday Aug. 28, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson.

He was born on Oct. 28, 1945, in Spalding, son of the late Frank and Amy (Fezatte) Nowack. On July 27,1974, he married the love of his life, Jeanette Leboeuf at St Francis Xavier Church in Spalding and together they celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.

Jerry worked for Harley Davidson in Milwaukee after graduating high school and later enlisted in the United States Navy on March 1, 1966, with basic training at San Diego, Calif. He was stationed at Guantanamo Bay Cuba for most of his career installing and maintaining the telephone system on the base. He later was stationed aboard the USS Wainwright. After his honorable discharge, he began a 33-year career as a millwright for Mead Paper in Escanaba. In 1984 he helped his wife start J’s Sport Supply in Powers where he could be found most mornings chatting with customers.

Hunting was his passion. Montana for elk and mule deer, Alaska and Canada for moose, and South Dakota for prairie dogs! He was especially excited to have his son, Scott join him twice on a moose hunt in Alaska with his father-in-law.

Woodworking was his hobby, and retirement would find him busy in his workshop. Ash was his favorite wood to work with, and there was nothing he couldn’t build. His cabin on River Road is a beautiful specimen of his handiwork.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Jeanette; son, Scott (Amanda) Nowack and grandson, Matthew; a brother, James (Connie) Nowack; sister-in-law, Diane Nowack; mother-in-law, Jean Leboeuf; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Mark; brothers, Joe and John Paul Nowack; and sisters, Judy and Jean.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Central time on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Spalding.
