Janet Hendrickson

Janet was born on Jan. 13, 1937, in Crystal Falls, daughter of the late William Sikkila and Taimi (Waldo) Pearson.

Janet grew up in the Covington and Sidnaw areas, attending the Sidnaw and Ewen schools through ninth grade before moving to Crystal Falls. She graduated as valedictorian from Crystal Falls High School in 1955. Janet met the love of her life, Richard J. Hendrickson, and they were married on Aug. 13, 1955, in Crystal Falls. The couple recently observed their 69th wedding anniversary.

She was a long-time resident of the community, and a participant, supporter and advocate for the City of Crystal Falls. Janet was employed by the Iron County Road Commission for 29 years as a secretary and then office manager. She also worked for Lud Stoor Insurance Agency and other local businesses.

Janet served as mayor of the City of Crystal Falls between 2004 and 2014. She was a member of the United Lutheran Church of Crystal Falls, serving on various committees, as well as the city council of Crystal Falls and board of Dickinson Iron Community Services Agency.

Janet enjoyed softball, bowling and was an avid golfer. Janet was Crystal Falls women’s league golf champion many times. She loved attending Forest Park High School sporting events, traveling, especially to Las Vegas and Hawaii, and visiting with friends and family in the U.P., Wisconsin and Lower Michigan. She took great pride as the owner of several adored Samoyeds and many spoiled cats, and even loved an owl over the years.

Janet is survived by her husband, Richard Hendrickson; sister, Barbara (Tom) Sinnott of Hermantown, Minn.; daughter, Joni Lindeman of Mason, Mich., sons, Dale (Gwen) of Wyoming, Mich. and Dean of Crystal Falls; five grandchildren, Brent, Jeffrey (Michelle), and Liza Lindeman; Kyle (Amy) and Derek (Jana) Hendrickson; six great-grandchildren, Brody, Briella, Gideon, Ada, Olivia and Mara; nephews, Michael Anesi, David (Yong Hui), and Randy Hendrickson; cousins, Gene Waldo, and Ruth (Perry) Kudwa.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as in-laws, Bob and Dorothy Hendrickson; niece, Sandi (Hendrickson) McClary; and nephew, Rick Hendrickson.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the United Lutheran Church of Crystal Falls. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. with Reverend D.J. Rasner officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

Interment to be at the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
