KINGSFORD — Justin Henry Perry, 36 years old, of Kingsford, passed away suddenly in an accident on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024.

Justin was born in Iron Mountain, to Henry and Roxann Perry of Crystal Falls. He graduated from Forest Park High School in 2006. He continued on to Michigan Tech University where he got a double bachelor’s degree in computer and electrical engineering. He loved being a Michigan Tech alumnus like his father and grandfather.

He married Elsa Heupel on June 12, 2021, at a small ceremony in the backyard of their home in Kingsford. He worked most recently as senior engineer for Asplundh Construction and was a licensed contractor in 40 states. He owned an apartment building in Iron Mountain where he quickly made friends with the tenants. That and his investments were part of his plan to retire by the time he was 55.

He had a passion for food and cooking — from smoking meats and queso on his smoker to Chinese food on his homemade wok; he cooked for his family and friends any chance he got. He and his mom swapped recipes almost weekly, although neither of them ever stuck to a recipe anyways.

He and Elsa loved to travel, and he never left a city without trying their General Tso’s chicken. The highest ranking Chinese food and their favorite place to be was Folly Beach, S.C.. He loved backpacking, movies, (the more quotable the better), nerding out over computer technology and watching educational Youtube videos.

In all of his interests and travels, he was happiest spending time with his family, and being the best Poppy to his grandson Camdon.

He is survived by his wife, Elsa Perry; his step-children, Cameron (Autumn) and grandson, Camdon of New London, Wis., Teressa of Philadelphia, and Zachery of Scott Air Force Base, Ill.; parents, Henry (Roxann) Perry of Crystal Falls; sister, Kelsey (Jake) Everts of South Bend, Ind.; sister, Haley (Taylor) Rowe and nephew Zander of Gallatin, Tenn.; grandmother, Helen of Crystal Falls; in-laws, David (Darlene) Heupel of Quinnesec; sister-in-law, Lisa Reed of Iron Mountain; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray (Rhea) Hendershott; his grandfather, Raymond Perry; and his uncle, Ray Hendershott.

Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor DJ Rasner of United Lutheran Church officiating.

Although we couldn’t do the service as early as he would prefer, those that knew him can picture him laughing to himself that he will finally turn us all into mourning people.
