SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Kenneth Alan Johnson, 62, formerly of Iron Mountain and Chicago, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, in hospice at Grossmont Hospital, San Diego, with his daughter, Hannah, by his side after a two-year battle with cancer.
Ken was born Aug. 14, 1961, in Charleston, S.C., the son of Judy (Olson) and (the late) Gerald Johnson.
Ken was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School class of 1979 and Ferris State University.
He was a world traveler, music lover and free spirit. He loved to golf, the Chicago Cubs and to be “on the beach.”
Ken is survived by his mother, Judy; daughter, Hannah Johnson (Austin Minton); three sisters, Lisa Johnson Lewandowski, Cathy (Thomas) Menza, and Jennie Johnson (John Maracini). He is further survived by his former wife, Celeste (Esveldt) Johnson; his special friend, Tony Chmelar; Tony’s wife Heidi; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Along with his father, Ken was preceded in death by infant twin brothers.
The family would like to thank the ICU and hospice staff at Grossmont Hospital, along with Dr. Medic and his oncology team for their exceptional care of Ken.
A graveside service and celebration of Ken’s life will take place at a later date.
