Lola Unger

KINGSFORD — Lola Mae Unger, 88, of Kingsford passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.

Lola was born July 14, 1936, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Evans and Antoinette (Despins) Jacobson. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1954 and was a lifelong resident of the area. Lola married Warren Unger on Oct. 26, 1957, at Sacred Heart Church in Aurora, Wis.

Lola worked and retired from Standard Service and Supply and was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. She played baseball as a young girl and enjoyed bowling and volleyball into adulthood. Lola loved shopping, going out to eat with her sisters, and socializing with her friends.

Lola was a sweet, kind natured woman who laughed easily and hugged often. She was generous, thoughtful and welcoming; and over the years her home was the gathering place for her extended family and friends.

Lola was a wonderful mother who was always there when her children needed her most, offering support, wisdom and love. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lola will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Warren; three children, Lori (Mike) Feira of Kingsford, Dave (Dawn) Unger of Oshkosh, Wis. and Alan (Lori) Unger of Breitung Township; three sisters, Janet Doucette of Norway, Diane Anderson of Norway, and Mary Ann (Dan) Kreski of Homestead, Wis.; two brothers-in-law, Clyde Unger of Spread Eagle, Wis. and Richard (Julie) Unger of Appleton, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Nancy Unger of Green Bay; six grandchildren, Amy (Kyle) Volkmann, Kevin Feira (fiancée Megan), Derek (Kayla) Unger, Deidra (Colton) Fernstrum, Lindsay (Steve) Rigoni, and Kristin (Zach) Dorothy; seven great-grandchildren, Hadley, Jack, Avery, Mae, Anthony, Claire and Alanna; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lola was also preceded in death by three brothers-in-law, Jack Doucette, Richard Anderson and Jim Unger; and a niece, Becky Doucette.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23 at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford with Msgr. Joseph Gouin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
