FAITHORN — Kenneth C. LeGrave, 83, of Iron Mountain and formerly of Faithorn, peacefully passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
Ken was born June 15, 1941, in Stephenson, to the late Clarence and Ruth (Robertson) LeGrave of Faithorn. After graduating from Norway High School in 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1960-1964 as a Machinist Mate in refrigeration and air conditioning.
On Sept. 10, 1965, he married Bonnie (Harding Jafolla), and they were married 59 years. They lived in Faithorn for 50 years before moving to Iron Mountain to be closer to doctors and hospitals, but they spent all summer until December at their RV on land in Faithorn.
Ken worked at Norway Gravure as a pressman for 37 years. He also owned and operated, along with his wife Bonnie, the Faithorn Pheasant Shooting Preserve. They also ran a grocery store, lunch counter, and gas pumps there also. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, cruising, traveling and wintering in Florida and Arizona. He especially enjoyed his time with his boys, grandchildren and great-grandson.
Ken is survived by his wife, Bonnie; two sons, Ken J. (Julie) LeGrave of Spalding and Kim (Stacey) LeGrave of Vulcan; four grandchildren, Natasha, Mitchell (Sunshine Carlson) and Ethan LeGrave and Kyle Schoen; a great-grandson, Axel Schoen; a great-granddaughter, Aspen Schoen; a sister, Carmen (Roger) Tomasi; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Paula) Petrick, Greg (Marge) Petrick, Bob (Shelley) Petrick; sisters-in-law, Linda Petrick, Karen LeGrave, Margaret Petrick, and Sherry Wester; and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his best companion, his dog Sassy.
Along with his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his in-laws, Bob and Ruth “Sis” Petrick; his sister, Donna Walli; a brother, Ron LeGrave; and brothers-in-law, Larry Walli, Jim Jafolla, Mark and Mike Petrick.
A private graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Faithorn on Sept. 29.
In honor of Ken’s wishes, the family has requested no flowers for the family or service.
