Lorraine F. Luba

KINGSFORD — Lorraine F. Luba, 97, of Kingsford, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, at Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford.

Lorraine was born Nov. 16, 1926 in Ironwood, daughter of the late Carl and Elizabeth (DesLongchamp) Wahlquist.

She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1945 and went on to get technical training to become a pharmacy technician. She worked at Dickinson County Hospital for many years.

Lorraine married Clyde Luba on April 19, 1969, and he preceded her in death in 2010. She was an active member of American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford where she served on the Ladies Guild. Lorraine was a volunteer at the Iron Mountain V.A. Hospital, the Dickinson County Hospital and the Breen Senior Center as well as playing an instrumental role in the founding of the Dickinson County Cancer Unit. She enjoyed doing yardwork, playing cards and baking.

Lorraine is survived by a two granddaughters, Missy Davidson and Christine (Mike) Bruns; a brother, William (Sandy) Johnson; a sister, Pat Ellis; five great-grandchildren, Kassandra, Chelsie, Kevin, Alyssa and Erika; nine great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Clyde, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Dick Machus; a daughter and son-in-law. Diane (Gary) Davidson; a sister, Bunny Paquette; and her step-father, William Johnson.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 at the Kingsford Funeral Home followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Msgr. Joseph Gouin will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dickinson County Cancer Unit Loan Closet.
