Michael Kitter
POWERS — Michael Thomas Kitter, 52, of Powers, passed away the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Feb. 20, 1972, in West Branch, son of Norman Leonard and Sally Irene (Cash)
Kitter, Michael had a burning curiosity and a passion for sharing knowledge, particularly in the fields of science, psychology, and anthropology. From childhood he was a passionate musician who enjoyed creating music with his brothers or strumming his guitar to himself. Michael found peace spending time in nature — he was an avid gardener and enjoyed creating spaces for mindful relaxation.
He valued community care, and could often be found volunteering at a local ice rink. Above all, though, his greatest joy was sharing time with friends and family, charming them with his off the wall humor and infectious laugh.
Michael is survived by his loving family, including his mother, Sally of Powers, and stepmother, Luann of Fremont, Mich.; siblings, Sharon Day of Green Bay, Wis., Kevin (Nicole) Kitter of Powers, and Eric Kitter of Iron Mountain; nieces, Hannah Chouinard, Ashley (Jake) Jacobsen, and Cassie Barglind; nephews, Eli Chouinard and Hunter (Kailyn) Skoglund. Along with his father, Michael is preceded in death by his girlfriend, Natalie Campbell; and brother in-law, John Day.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern time at the Crawford Funeral Chapel, 1236 Old U.S. 2 and 41, Bark River, MI 49807. Michael will be laid to rest next to his father at the Edwards Township Cemetery in Alger.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Menominee County Animal Shelter.
A message of condolence can be direct to the family at www.crawfordfuneralhomes.net. The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Kitter family.
