Richard Vivio
VULCAN — Richard “Rick” Vivio, 71, of Vulcan, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at Evergreen Meadows Assisted Living in Norway, after his battle with cancer.
He was born on Nov. 16, 1952, in Norway, the son of the late Clarence and Rita Vivio.
Rick spent his early years working on his grandfather and grandmother Harvey’s farm, eventually taking over operations. As a high school student, Rick bought a 1969 Roadrunner, identified by the rear window sticker “Sniper 10.” He joined the local car club that would showcase some of the top vehicles in the area.
Following his graduation from Norway High School in 1971, Rick was employed at Specialty Granules (formerly known as GAF Corporation) and often spoke highly of his coworkers there.
Rick then went onto study mechanics at a skill center in Marquette and was employed at UPS as the mechanic for that terminal.
He later relocated to the Iron Mountain UPS terminal and moved to the farm in Vulcan.
Following his employment with UPS, he drove truck for several different companies and then returned to Specialty Granules, until he finally retired back to the farm with his son and grandchildren.
Rick enjoyed working with, as well as showing, his animals at the fair. Following in his grandfather Harvey’s footsteps, he had teams of ponies and workhorses and attended pulling contests at different locations throughout the U.P. and Wisconsin. He instilled that same love of the farm and animals in his daughter, son and grandchildren. He would also assist 4-H youth with showing animals for auction.
Rick is survived by his daughter, Carrie (Shawn) Thill of Marquette; son, Jacob Vivio of Vulcan; grandchildren, Riley and Gage Vivio; siblings, Ronald (Kathleen) Vivio of Norway, David (Sue) Vivio of Iron Mountain, Pamela (Jon) Schwamlien of Vulcan and Mark (Lavern) Vivio of Springfield, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Rita Vivio; grandparents, Walter and Elisabeth Vivio and Roy and Bernice Harvey.
The family would like to thank Evergreen Meadows for the compassionate care Rick received there. They also wish to thank friends and family that visited, or assisted in any way during Rick’s illness.
Per Rick’s wishes, there will be no services held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements were made with the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.
