Donald Hoaglund
1929-2024
KINGSFORD — Donald “Don” Hoaglund, 95, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024. at Evergreen Heights Assisted Living in Kingsford.
He was born on June 9, 1929, to the late Herbert and Esther (Anderson) Hoaglund in Iron Mountain. He lived his entire life in the local area. After graduating from Kingsford High School in 1947, he worked for a number of years with his parents on their dairy farm in Homestead.
He was united in marriage to Beverly Bellmore of Iron Mountain on May 17, 1958; they have celebrated 66 wonderful years together.
He worked for Wahlstrom’s Dairy in Aurora for 10 years. He was then employed as custodian for the Florence County School District at the Hillcrest School in Aurora, and he also drove school bus, retiring in 1994. He and Beverly lived most of their lives in Homestead and Aurora before moving to Kingsford in 2014.
Don was always happy to spend time with his family and friends. He loved to spend time with his boys, especially at Mark’s camp and working in the woods.
Music was also a big part of Don’s life, playing accordion in numerous dance bands in the area in his younger years with others such as Barney Spera, Joe Groleau, Ken Rubbo, Severs Brosio, and Howie Brocker. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford where he was their organist for 34 years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beverly; three sons, Mark (Kim) Hoaglund of Homestead, Wis., Jeff (Amy) Hoaglund of Green Bay, Wis. and Gary (Gina) Hoaglund of Quinnesec; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Marion Hoaglund and Betty Colavecchi.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the church with Pastor Matt Ruesch officiating. Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
