Doreen ‘Toots’ Process

KINGSFORD — Doreen Marie “Toots” Process, 77, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Saturday Sept. 14, 2024, in Kingsford.

Doreen was born April 21, 1947, in Indianapolis, to Leonard and Marie (Beleck) Shoquist. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1965. Through her life, she held many jobs, including CNA, short order cook, courier, bartender, and more.

Doreen had a deep love of animals and enjoyed caring for her many pets throughout her life, in addition to hobbies like snowmobiling, baking, camping, reading, and putting up Christmas lights. Toots was a force of nature, and quick to help those in need.

Her greatest pleasure in life was cooking. She cooked Sunday breakfast for the Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club and enjoyed cooking for parties and holidays. Toots cooked out of a love of feeding others; she loved having people over for dinner, sending people home with food, and mailing goodies. Many friends, family, locals, and out of towners have been well fed by Toots over the years.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Carmelita Gamboa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Gamboa; brothers, Wayne Shoquist, Larry Shoquist; and granddaughter, Mackenzie Medrano.

A celebration of life will be held summer/fall 2025.
