George A. Bousley
NIAGARA, Wis. — George A. Bousley, 89, of Niagara,Wis., passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson, Iron Mountain.
He was born on March 3, 1935, in Goodman, Wis., to the late Oswald and Elvera (Erickson) Bousley.
He graduated from Pembine High School, class of 1953. He married Rosalie Groleski on July 28, 1956, in Goodman, Wis., at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1957, where he served until his honorable discharge in 1960.
For a short time after the service, George and Rosalie lived in Dunbar, Wis., before moving to Niagara in 1963. They owned and operated Bousley’s service station in Niagara for 37 years until their retirement in 1999.
During his time in Niagara, George served as the village president and city mayor for 32 years until his retirement in 2021. He was a member of the Marinette County Board for 12 years and chairman for eight years. He was chairman of the Gasoline Retail Association Board for 16 years and served on the board of the Wisconsin League of Municipalities for many years.
Upon retiring, running became a passion of his. He completed numerous races of various distances with his kids and grandkids. Through his daily runs and races, he completed enough miles to circle the world.
George was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus since 1964.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Rosalie Bousley; sons, Jim (Linda) Bousley and Larry (Abby) Bousley; daughters, Judy (Tom) Parent and Kathy Hansen; brother, Jim (Sheri) Bousley; sister, Karen Burgess; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Bousley; brothers, Russell Bousley, Robert Bousley, and James Bousley; and sister, Barbara Erickson.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until noon on Monday, Nov. 4 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. A Memorial Mass will be held at noon, on Monday at the church with Rev. Fr. Felix Abano Jr. officiating.
