Julaine Mitchell

KINGSFORD — Julaine Marie Mitchell, 62, of Kingsford passed away on her birthday, Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, in the comfort of her home.

Julaine was born in Iron Mountain on Nov. 2, 1962, daughter of the late David and Bernice (Atherton) Sorensen. After graduating from Kingsford High School in 1981, she married Joseph Mitchell and relocated to Mississippi during his time in the Air Force before settling back in Kingsford where they raised their three sons.

After her divorce from Joseph, she married Dennis Anderson. She worked several jobs, including positions in food service, adult assisted living, and Nelson Paint. She had also followed in her father’s footsteps by helping with crossing guard duties for the Breitung Township School District.

Julaine was very compassionate, not only to the people she cared for, but also the animals that she cared for along the way. She particularly enjoyed walking the dogs at the shelter, feeding and observing local wildlife, rock collecting, and babysitting. Julaine will also be remembered for her resilience and joyfulness in the face of adversity.

Julaine will be missed by her three sons, Ben Mitchell, Adam Mitchell (fiance, Ivory), and Zachary (Megan) Mitchell; a brother, Gordon (Paula) Sorensen; nieces, Jennifer Flynn, Sara Tregillis, and Heather Sorensen; nephews, Samuel Sorensen, Robert Coughlin Jr., David Coughlin, James Coughlin and John Coughlin; as well as several great-nephews/nieces and friends.

In addition to her parents, Julaine is preceded in death by two brothers, Robert (Kathy) Coughlin and Phillip Sorensen.

Anyone wishing to honor her memory is encouraged to donate to the Almost Home Animal Shelter in her name.

Visitation will be at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home, 901 Carpenter Ave., from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
