KINGSFORD — Kathryn Lee Young, 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025, at Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson in Iron Mountain surrounded by her family.

Kathryn was born on Sept. 23, 1955, in Fort Knox, Ken., to George and Mona Powell (nee Frick). She moved with her family to Kingsford in 1966, and she graduated from Kingsford High School in 1973.

She dedicated her career to caring for others as a nurse and spent over 30 years working for Dr. Donald Jacobs.

Kathryn married the love of her life, James Young, with whom she shared a beautiful partnership filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support.

Together they raised two wonderful children, Mark (Amy) Young and Kathryn (Dennis) Carter. Kathryn was immensely proud of her family, and her children brought her endless joy.

She was also a devoted grandmother to her five grandchildren: Arias (9), Samantha (8), Xavier (7), Ivy (7), and Elliott Mona (6).

Kathryn’s kindness, warmth, and generous spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She found joy in life s simplest pleasures and approached each day with a sense of gratitude and grace.

She is survived by her beloved husband, James; her children, Mark and Kathryn, and her grandchildren; her siblings, Thomas (Leone) Powell of Traverse City, Mich. and Mary (Scott) Silver of Silverthorne, Colo.; and countless friends who were blessed to know her. Kathryn s legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

A memorial visitation to celebrate Kathryn s life will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, from 9 until 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to causes that Kathryn was passionate about.

Kathryn Lee Young s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and kindness. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
