IRON MOUNTAIN — Helen Catherine Forgette, 91, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025 at the Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury, N.C.

Born in Iron Mountain on May 18, 1933, Helen was the daughter of the late Maitland and Manghild Dow.

After graduating from Kingsford High School in 1951, Helen began her professional life working at the Dickinson County Courthouse, until staying home to raise her children. After the loss of Wally, Helen went to work at Pizza Oven and then the Iron Mountain Public Schools lunchroom. She made many friends that she worked with and cherished each of them.

On May 21, 1955, she married the love of her life, Wallace, in Studio City, Calif.

Helen was an active member of the First Covenant Church and was involved in many church activities and committees.

Helen had many passions throughout her life. She enjoyed figure skating and shared a deep love for horses’ watching her daughters show them and going on trail rides well into her 80s. She was an exceptional seamstress, creating beautiful outfits for her children and grandchildren, and later in life, crafting quilts that will be cherished for generations.

Baking was another of Helen’s many gifts. Whether it was her Frosted Banana Bars, Delicious Cookies, or any number of her homemade treats, Helen loved baking for her grandchildren, always making sure each one felt special with their favorites made just for them.

Helen is survived by her five children, Suzanne Creed of Dousman, Wis., Timothy (Joan) Forgette of Green Bay, Wis., Jean (James) Carobine of Aurora, Wis., Mark (Tammy) Forgette of Granite Quarry, N.C., and Heather (Allen Paquin) Forgette of Kingsford.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael (Lynn) Creed, Mark (Patricia) Creed, Kathryn (Craig) Cummings, Ashley (Anthony) Forgette-Cornwell, Avery (Trina Ryczek) Forgette, Amber (Joe) Meise, Zachery (KayCee) Carobine, Lauren (Keaton) Parent, Joseph (Kelly Boyd) Forgette,; Peyton (Walter Bostian Jr.) Forgette; Tyler (Hannah Huffmon) Forgette, Brooke (Jordan) Marchetti, Lucas (Kami Dawson) Heimerl, Mackenzie (Jonathan) Allen, and Grace (Erik Froblom) Heimerl.

Helen’s legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Madelyn (Ben Freeman) Creed, Elijah Creed, Saige Creed, Jackson Cummings, Jonathan Cummings, Calleigh Cornwell, Hayleigh Cornwell, Luke Cornwell, Leia Cornwell, Lennon Forgette, Lola Forgette, Jude Forgette, Vienna Forgette, Nathan Cotterman, Theo Carobine, Levi Carobine, Zachary McKinney, Gisele Marchetti, Colton Marchetti, Marlo Marchetti, Harlow Heimerl, Helen Allen and Westin Allen.

Helen also leaves a sister-in-law, Anne Dow; many nieces and nephews and special friends Wanda Sherman and Kathleen Pipp.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace; niece, Kathryn Dow; brother, Raymond Dow; son-in-law, Thomas Creed and grandson-in-law, Alexander Twardowski.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22 at the Quinnesec Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Sullivan officiating.
