Noleen B. LaVarnway
KINGSFORD — Noleen B. LaVarnway, 90, of Kingsford, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Evergreen Meadows in Norway.
Noleen was born Oct. 12, 1934, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Virgil and Nora (Criel) Bratton. After graduating from Kingsford High School in 1952, she married Roy LaVarnway on June 14 of that same year at American Martyrs Catholic Church; he preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 2010.
Noleen worked in food service for the Breitung Township School District for 15 years before retiring in 1994. She was also a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul for many years. An avid reader, Noleen enjoyed knitting, doing crossword puzzles, entertaining her grandkids, and hosting her family and special group of friends.
Noleen is survived by her son, Michael (Heather) LaVarnway of Kingsford; a daughter, Laurie Johnson (Joe Schomer) of Iron Mountain; a daughter-in-law, Jodi LaVarnway (Jeff Campbell) of Iron Mountain; six grandchildren, Ashlee Johnson, Jamie (Jon) Ellis, and Justin (Hailee), Ethan, Nolan and Allison LaVarnway; four great-grandchildren, Collin Punzel, Cale Punzel, Maya Meno and Charlee Punzel; two sisters-in-law, Irene Bratton and Sandra Bratton; and special cousins, nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Roy, she was preceded in death by a son, David LaVarnway; a son-in-law, Tom Johnson; two brothers, Sherman Bratton and Virgil Bratton; and a granddaughter, Brooke Johnson.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The funeral mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Msgr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.
