Donald A. Schultz

IRON MOUNTAIN — Donald Arthur Schultz, 88, of Iron Mountain passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025, surrounded by his family, at the Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson.

He was born in Iron Mountain on Dec. 5, 1936, son of the late Arthur and Alice (LaPointe) Schultz. Don graduated from Kingsford High School in 1955.

After graduation he enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps along with 14 fellow Dickinson County High School graduates, the largest recruiting class ever. He served as a heavy equipment operator until his honorable discharge at the rank of corporal in 1958.

On April 23, 1960, Don married Charlene Edwards from Aurora, Wis. resulting in an incredible and unforgettable 65 years together. Don was very proud of his family.

Don was a disciplined and hard working person including 10 years as a truck driver for Montgomery Wards. In 1969, he joined the family business, Schultz Equipment with his father Art, older brother Bob and brother in-law Ron LaCost. They enjoyed many successful and prosperous years together.

In 1996 Don’s oldest son, Steve, joined the family business and his other son, Paul, joined in 1998. Together they had 20 years of growth and success, building Schultz Equipment up to two locations & 50 employees.

A natural born leader, Don enjoyed socializing and getting involved with local community groups including board memberships in the Dickinson Area Catholic School, Timber Producers Association, and the Pleasure Riders motorcycle group. He also loved spending time with family and friends whether it be at camp on Schultz Road, his place at Rivers Bend, wintering with Charlene in Bradenton, Fla., and riding the ATV trails with friends.

For 30 years he went on his annual motorcycle ride with good lifelong friends “Hoss” Warren, Dave Lemke and George “Huggie Bear” LaFave. Those rides around the country were a true joy in his life. He also enjoyed meeting at the local restaurants for his daily political debates and discussions which became entertaining and heated at times, much to the enjoyment of all within earshot. Don will be remembered for his great sense of humor, exceptional talent for storytelling, generosity and valiant service during the “Battle of Tijuana.”

Don will be deeply missed by his wife, Charlene Schultz; four children, Steve (Mary) Schultz, Paul (Lisa) Schultz, Allen (Kristel) Schultz, and Terra (Tom) Maynard; nine grandchildren, Mark, Greg (Gina), Natalie Schultz, Andrea (Cole) Welch, Matthew, Erick, Darius (Emmy) Schultz, Arryonna, Thomas Maynard; four great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Lenora, Charles Welch, and Liam Schultz; sister, Carol Wilson; sister-in-law, Rose Schultz; and many other family and friends.
