Lawrence A. Capra

IRON MOUNTAIN — Lawrence A. Capra, 98, of Iron Mountain, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2025, at his home.

Larry was born Sept. 1, 1926, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Carlo and Seconda (Brosio) Capra.

A graduate of Iron Mountain High School, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. On Aug. 22, 1953, he married Mary Ann Spencer; she preceded him in death in 2006.

Larry received math and physics degrees from Western Michigan University. Mary Ann, a nurse, worked to help with Larry’s college education at the University of Michigan, where he earned a bachelor of science in electrical engineering.

After living and working in Grand Rapids Mich., Larry and Mary Ann moved back to Iron Mountain in 1960 when Larry was hired as an engineer at M.J. Electric.

He eventually became a licensed professional engineer, part owner of MJ Electric, and initiated and managed the Systems Control Division for many years. He also served as a director of the Commercial National Bank & Trust company.

Larry’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, and golfing. During his entire life, he was a man of many projects. He spent countless hours in his home workshop working on everything from Model A Fords to small wind and water generators. He enjoyed many years with family and friends at Spread Eagle, Wis. and Bonita Beach Fla.

He is survived by his son, Mark (Rosann) Capra; daughter, Melissa (John) Ehren; two grandchildren, Melinda Kratzig and Ross Ehren; three great-grandchildren, Elle Kratzig, Carter Kratzig, and Dahlia Ehren; a sister, Carol Brodie; and special friend, Betty Occhietti.

Along with his parents and wife, Mary Ann, Larry is preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Capra, Irene Secinario, Phil Capra, Jeanette Moreau, Kathleen Bosilovatz and Marcille Weaver.

There will be private family services.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to their favorite charity.
