Dorothy Franzen

CRIVITZ, Wis. — Dorothy Elaine Franzen, 95, of Crivitz, Wis., passed away on July 2, 2025.

She was born to Oscar and Signe Anderson, the second of four sisters. She graduated from Crystal Falls High School in 1947 and moved to Milwaukee, where she met the love of her life, Carl Franzen, while working at Wesley Steffke Freight Co.

After marrying on Feb. 3, 1951, they moved back to Crystal Falls, where they built a home and had four children. In 1964, they moved to Crivitz, where Dorothy worked in the school lunch program, at Francis Ducaines Grocery and later for Frank Zahorik doing taxes and accounting. In 1979, she and her partner Clara Treece purchased the business from his widow and had C&D Tax Service until retirement in 1996.

Dorothy was an avid supporter of the school, was a Deacon, Elder and Clerk of Session at Faith Presbyterian Church where she also sang with the choir and at Christmas cantatas. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served many years as an officer, and as coordinator of the bloodmobile for 35 years. Dorothy loved to bake and supported any Crivitz group having a bake sale with her pies and cream puffs.

Surviving Dorothy are her sister, Sally (Russ) Westfahl of Crystal Falls; three sons, Mark of Marinette, Wis., Gary (Jean) of Crivitz, and Glen (Diane) of Crivitz; one daughter, Linda (Dave) Johnston, Porterfield, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents; many in-laws; and her two dear sisters, Peggy and Judy.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Rennes West, and Unity for their loving care for the past 2 1/2 years.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Faith Presbyterian Church in Crivitz on July 19 from 9 to 11 a.m.; the service will be at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Pleuss officiating.
