John K. Maki
EDGEWATER, Fla. — John K. Maki, 78, of Edgewater, Fla., passed away at his home in Edgewater on Sunday, June 1, 2025, in the loving care of his family and special neighbor Amy Pounds.
John was born May 7, 1947, in Stambaugh, to the late John and Ann (Gehlhoff) Maki. John graduated from Iron River High School in 1965 after returning to Iron River from New Port Richey, Fla. He received his associate degree as a respiratory therapist and worked in hospitals in the New Port Richey area.
John enjoyed reading, bowling, playing cards with family and friends, and spending time with his dog GiGi. Family time was very important to John; he frequently returned to Upper Michigan to spend time with family and friends.
John is survived by his sister, Barbara Goodman; sons Rick Maki and Michael Maki; niece Janet (Dale) Melstrom; and nephews Mike (Mary Jo Popko) Grant and Ken Grant. John was loved by all four generations of nieces and nephews he left behind. He was blessed with 15 great-nieces and nephews, 36 great-great nieces and nephews, and four great-great-great nieces and nephews. John developed many dear friendships over the years, and is also survived by special friends Mark and JoAnn Begres, Brian and Amy Pounds, Charles (Chuck) Burlison and Kent Reichenbach.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Alda; son Trevor, who was killed aboard the USS Enterprise shortly after his mother’s death to cancer; special friend Kathy Maguire; nephews Edward Grant and Robert Grant; niece Jean Maki; and great-nephew Christopher Grant.
Graveside rites will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Beechwood on July 19 at 11 a.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Begres, Logan Bradshaw, Dale Melstrom, Mike Grant, Ken Grant and Brian Pounds.
